| Lincoln’s Reconstruction Plan | Main goal was to re-admit the Southern states into the Union |
| Johnson’s Reconstruction Plan | Main goal was to punish high-ranking confederate leaders. |
| Congressional Reconstruction Plan | Period when congress took responsibility for bringing the South back into the Union; established because Georgia and other Southern states refused to ratify the 14th Amendment |
| Military Reconstruction Plan | Period where the military took responsibility for bringing the South back into the Union; the south was divided into military districts. |
| Freedmen’s Bureau | Federal agency created to provide assistance to former slaves and poor whites; unsuccessful in bringing about unity after the Civil War. |
| Ku Klux Klan (KKK) | Terrorist organization created in the South to intimidate freedmen and white republicans through threats and violence |
| Sharecropping | Farmers,mostly poor whites and freed slaves,who work on a landowner’s property in exchange for land, farming equipment, and seed: required to give the landowner a share of the crop |
| Tenant farming | Farmers, mostly poor whites and freed slaves, who agree to work on a landowner’s property and provide the landowner with a share of the crop; usually owned their own farm equipment. |
