| French East India Company (1664) | Had several trading posts in India, but was slowed by the English East India Company. They then turned their focus to the West Indies after losing Madras to the English. Then in 1769 it started to lose it's monopoly over trade with India |
| War of Austrian Succession (1740-48) | War that was fought to determine if Maria Theresa could rule Austria after her father, Charles IV's death, she ended up ruling Austria but they lost Silesia to Prussia |
| Pragmatic Sanction | A decree made by Charles IV that Maria Theresa could rule if he never got a male heir, didn't last long |
| Peace Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle | Ended the War of Austrian Succession with everyone returning taken land except for Prussia keeping Silesia |
| Seven Years War (1756-63) | Caused by Prussia still having Silesia, was mainly Austria vs. Prussia and Britain vs. France, Britain was allied to Prussia and France with Austria. Britain and Prussia were were victorious with France losing many holdings in India |
| French and Indian War (1754-59) | A part of the Seven Years War in North America where Britain came out victorious and France lost much of their holdings in North America |
| Thomas Paine | Wrote Common Sense which was a call for America to succeed from Britain after all of their taxes |
| Sugar Act Stamp Act Quartering Act Townsend Act | - Taxed sugar - Taxed all paper products - Forced people to quarter British soldiers in their homes - Taxed many things including tea |
| Boston Tea Party (1773) | British imports of tea were dumped into the Boston harbor, in response Britain closed the port and made the colonies pay for it |
| Napoleon Bonaparte | Corsican man that moved to France, sided with the French revolution and ended up becoming emperor of France until he was sent to a remote island by the rest of Europe where he would later die |
| Napoleon's stance on women | Napoleon gave many rights to the people, though he also took many rights from women making them completely dependent on men whether it be their fathers or husbands |
| Napoleonic Code | Him giving more rights to the people where he created a private federal bank called the Bank of France |
| Concordat of 1801 | Napoleon's treaty to get the Catholic Church back into France after being kicked out during the French Revolution |
| Invasion of Russia | Napoleon marched into Russia with one of the largest armies at the time and was beaten very badly losing most of the army which eventually led to the end of his rule of France |
| Waterloo | The battle that ended Napoleon's rule in England with him being exiled to the island of Elba |
| Battle of Trafalgar | Where Britain destroyed much of the French navy which made a naval assault impossible |
| Treaty of Tilsit | The treaty that created an alliance between France and Russia and weakened much of the Germanic states |
| French Revolution | A revolution that changed France's gov't from a absolute monarchy to a republic under Robespierre and the radical Jacobin club |
| Robespierre | A member of the radical Jacobin club and he caused the execution of many people during the Reign of Terror |
| Jacobin Club | The Radical party in France that caused the Reign of Terror with many executions by Guillotine |
| Storming of the Bastille | A part of the French Revolution where people were looking for gunpowder and since it symbolized French power they stormed it and killed the man in charge of it |
| National Assembly | The government of the Liberal phase of the French Revolution, weak and overthrown |
| National Committee | Gov't of the Radical phase of the French Revolution, weak and overthrown |
| Committee of Public Safety | A committee that had control over the National Committee that 'protected' France from outside and domestic problems, caused the Reign of Terror, eventually ended the Reign when they executed Robespierre |
| Directory | Gov't of the Reactionary phase, weak and was overthrown by Napoleon |
