What is Confederation? When Colonies join together.
What was July 1st 1867? When the Dominion of Canada was officially created. As well as When The Province of Canada (Canada East and Canada West) Was split and named Ontario and Quebec.
What happened to The Province of Canada on July 1st 1867? The Province of Canada (Canada East and Canada West) Was split and named Ontario and Quebec.
What was the Charlottetown Conference? in September 1864, representatives from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and P.E.I. met to think about the Union of the Maritime Colonies.
What was the Quebec Conference? At the end of the Charlottetown Conference, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick agreed to join Confederation, but Newfoundland and P.E.I were not convinced to join the Confederation yet.
What was the London Conference? The Fathers of Confederation from Nova Scotia, Brunswick, Canada East, and Canada West traveled to London, England to write the British North America Act. They went to England to represent the idea to the British Crown, which they then approved.
What Happened when the Charlottetown Conference was heard about by The Province of Canada (Canada East and Canada West). When this news was heard about by the Province of Canada, Macdonald and other pro-confederation leaders asked to attend, they were then answered yes.

Why did the British Government force a Union among Vancouver Island and British Columbia? They didn't want to lose them due to the economic decline in the Pacific Coast because of the end of the gold rush.
What did Hudson's Bay Company own? They DID NOT own the North West Territories and Rupert's Land, but yet they DID pwn the RIGHTS over the Fur Trade in these regions.
Why did supporters of Confederation want to own the North West Territories and Rupert's Land? The supporters of Confederation wanted to own the Northwest Territories and Rupert's land because they were worried about the rumors they had heard of about the Hudsons Bay Compamy selling their rights over the land to the USA for money.
What were the Atlantic Colonies? Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and P.E.I
What were the Maritime Colonies? Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.
What were the Atlantic Colonies afraid of? The Atlantic Colonies were concerned that if confederation happened, it would take away there independence and power.
Who was Arthur Hamilton Gordon? Arthur Hamilton Gordon was the Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick.
What did Arthur Hamilton Gordon think about a Union between the Atlantic Colonies? Arthur Hamilton Gordon thought that if they were to bring the Atlantic colonies together and not the big places like Canada East and Canada West (The province of Canada), it would be a solution to many of their challenges. This plan excluded Newfoundland.
What identity was Canada East and Canada West full of? Canada East - French Catholic Canada West - English Protestants.
Why did the French people not like the idea of Confederation? They thought that it would bring to many English Protestants over to them.
What was George Etienne Cartier's views on Confederation? Georges Etienne Cartier thought that Confederation would provide more protection and independence for the French.
What was George Brown's opinion on French Rights? George Brown wanted to diminish French political power in the province of Canada and assimilate the French.
What was John A. Macdonald's opinion on French Rights? John A. MacDonald wanted to uphold the rights of the French and protect their equal representation in the government.

What were Irish people called who didnt like that the British Empire was ruling Ireland called? Fenians
Why were the Fenian's so dangerous? (people in the group) Some of the Soldiers who participated in the American Civil War joined the Fenian's, so now the Fenian's had trained Soldiers.
Where did The Brotherhood (the Fenian's) exist in? Everywhere where Irish Immigrants lived in since the Irish people who immigrated to the places could have been apart of the Fenians.
What did the Fenian's want to do to British North America? They wanted to invade British North America because they wanted Ireland to be its own place, and they thought that British North America was an easy target since they thought it was weak and because of how small the colonies were.
How did British North America get tied into everything with the Fenian's? They were apart of the British Empire and they thought that they were the weakest and easiest to invade.
What did the Fenian's plan to do SPECIFICALLY in invading British North America? They planned on taking the Colonies hostage in order to get independace for Ireland
Why did the Fenian's not end up invading British North America? The British Empire got granted them independence
What happened when the Fur Trade was in serious decline because of Confederation? Bison were disappering and First Nations People were suffering most from this decline also suffering from food shortage, Famine, and other new Diseases Settlers brought over with them.
What is the difference between appointed officials and elected officials? Appointed means they are selected by an authority, while elected means they are chosen by public vote.
