| How old do you have to be to service in the House and the Senate? | The House: 25 The Senate: 30 |
| To be elected president, you have to be at least these two things: | Be at least 35 years old and be born an American citizen (you can't be an immigrant or a naturalized citizen) |
| Once they are appointed by the president and confirmed by congress, how long do Supreme Court Justices serve? | For life. They can either retire or die on the court. |
| What is an example of a check the Legislative Branch can do on the Executive Branch? | They can vote to impeach the president and possibly remove them from office, they can override the president's veto (reject) |
| What is an example of a check the Executive Branch can do on the Legislative Branch? | The president can sign or veto (reject) laws created by Congress |
| What is an example of a check the Judicial Branch can do on the Legislative and Executive Branches? | They can determine if a law is constitutional or not (they can keep or strike down laws) |
| Which branch controls the ability to declare war and the budget (money) of the government, and why? | The Legislative because it has the most members, and giving power to 1 person on declaring war and money could lead to corruption |
| Which branch has the power to use "Executive Orders" to create laws? | The Executive Branch. It is a power give specifically to the president. |
| In order to pass a new amendment, what percentage of the House and Senate have to agree on it? | two-thirds of both houses |
| How many electoral votes does it take for a personal to be elected president today? | 270 electoral votes |
| What is the main argument in wanting to abolish the electoral college? | A person can win the presidency by losing the popular vote |
| What was the compromise called from the Virginia Plan and the New Jersey plan? | The GREAT Compromise (two-house legislature) |
| What was the compromise that determined how enslaved people were counted toward population? | The 3/5 Compromise |
| What did the Anti-federalists need added to the constitution to ratify it? | The Bill of Rights |
