British acts of 1760

TermDefinition
Sugar act 1764 Raised duties on sugar and other goods imported from non British source. Wanted to raise revenue to get rid of debt, taxation without representation
Currency act 1764 Banned colonies from issuing their own money, to protect British merchants, hurt colonial economies
Stamp act 1765 Required colonists to buy stamps for legal docs and more, direct tax to gain money, outrage and protest
Quartering act 1765 requires colonists to provide housing for British solders, reduce cost for armies, violation of privacy
Declaratory act 1766 stated that parliament has full authority to make laws for colonies, reassert British control, ignored
Townshend acts 1767 placed external tax on imports, raise revenue for British, no taxation without representation
Tea acts 1773 gave east India company right to sell tea at lower price, help the company/ reassert tax, led to Boston tea party
