Crusade noun. one of a series of expeditions Europeans made to regain control of of Christian holy sites in the Middle East from the A.D 1000s to the 1200s.
classical adj. related to the culture of ancient Greece and Rome.
Renaissance noun or adj. a reawakening of culture and intellectual curiosity in Europe from the 1300s to 1600s.
technology noun. the use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes.
astroable noun. an instrument used to plan a course using the stars.
compass noun verb adverb. an instrument that shows the direction of magnetic north.
pilgrimage noun. a journey to a holy place
mosque noun. a Muslim house of worship
cape noun verb. a point of land that sticks out into water, much like a peninsula.
circumnavigate verb. to travel completely around something usually by water.
devote verb. to commit oneself or ones resources to something.
alter verb. to change.
acquire verb. to get possession or control of.
conquistador noun. Spanish explorer
Immunity noun. resistance, such as to disease
pueblo noun. a town in the Spanish ruled lands
mission noun, verb, adj. A religious community where farming was carried out and native Americans were converted to christianity.
presidio noun. a fort
plantation noun. a large farm

found verb. to start, to establish
reformation noun. a sixteenth century religious movement rejecting or changing some Roman Catholic teachings and practices and establishing protestant churches.
