What is a sign? A direct and literal object/action that clearly represents something specific.
What is the main difference between a symbol and a sign? A symbol has deeper meaning, while a sign has a clear, direct meaning.
What does the word “Sacrament” come from? It comes from the word “sacred,” meaning holy.
How many sacraments are in the Catholic Church? Seven
What are the three groups of the Sacraments? Initiation, Healing, Service.
Which sacraments are Initiation sacraments? Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist.
Which sacraments are Healing sacraments? Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick.
Which sacraments are Service sacraments? Marriage (Matrimony) and Holy Orders.
What is the purpose of Initiation Sacraments? To welcome someone into the Catholic Church.

What is Baptism? The first Sacrament that cleanses a person from sin and welcomes them into the Church.

Who usually performs Baptism? A priest or deacon.
What is total immersion in Baptism? Being completely submerged in water to symbolize purification.
What does water symbolize in Baptism? Cleansing from sin and new life.
What does the white garment symbolize? Purity and new life with Christ.
What does the baptismal candle represent? The light of Christ.
What is Chrism oil used for? To anoint and show the person is chosen by God.
Can Baptism be repeated? No, only once
What is Confirmation? A sacrament where a person confirms their faith and receives the Holy Spirit fully.
Who usually administers Confirmation? A bishop.
What are the signs of Confirmation? Laying on of hands, anointing with chrism, bishop’s words, white garment.
How many gifts of the Holy Spirit are there? Seven
What does Confirmation strengthen? The person’s bond with God and the Church.
What is the Eucharist? The Sacrament celebrating Jesus’ Last Supper.
What does the bread represent? The Body of Christ.
What does the wine represent? The Blood of Christ.
