Independence Vocab

TermDefinition
Bicameral Having two separate lawmaking chambers.
Republic A government in which citizens rule through elected representatives.
Ordinance A law/regulation.
Depreciate To lower in value.
Manumission The freeing of enslaved people.
Proportional Having the proper size in relation to other objects/items.
Compromise A settlement of dispute or disagreement.
Federalism A form of government where power is shared between national government and state government.
Legislative Branch The branch of government that creates laws.
Executive Branch The branch of government that carries out laws.
Electoral College A group of people named by each state chosen to select the president and vice president.
Judicial Branch: The branch of government that interprets laws.
Check and Balances A system where each branch of government limits powers of other branches to prevent each branch from getting to powerful.
Amendment A change/correction or improvement added to a document.
