| Inauguration | noun- a ceremony introducing a new president into office |
| Precedent | noun- something done or said that becomes an example for others to follow; an example or guide |
| Foreign policy | noun- a government's plan of action in dealing with other nations |
| Domestic policy | noun- a government's plan of action in dealing with issues and needs in their own country |
| Neutrality | noun- a country that doesn't favor any side in a dispute involving other countries |
| Embargo | noun- a prohibition or blocking of trade with a certain country; a a ban on trade : when a government refuses to trade with another country |
| Nullify | verb- to legally overturn; to make something invalid |
| Monroe Doctrine | noun- President Monroe's foreign policy stating that European countries should not interfere in the Americas |
| Immigrant | noun- a person who moves from their home country to live in a new country |
| Nativism | noun- belief that native-born Americans are superior to foreigners; the practice of favoring native-born citizens over immigrants |
| Market Revolution | noun- a change in the United States' market system (how buyers and sellers trade for products and services) |
| Industrial Revolution | noun- a change in how people made goods; the transitions from creating goods by hand to using machines |
| Abolitionist | noun- a person who fights for the ending of slavery |
| Reform | verb- changing wrong or bad conditions to make them better |
| Accumulate | verb- to build up or collect |
| Cabinet | noun- a group of advisers to a president |
| Compromise | noun- a settlement of a dispute by each side giving up some demands; a settlement of a disagreement reached by each side giving up some of what it wants in order to reach an agreement |
| Caucus | noun- a meeting of members of a political party to choose candidates for upcoming elections |
| Sedition | noun- activites aimed at weakening that established government by inciting resistance or rebellion to authority |
