Idependence Vocab

TermDefinition
Bicameral Is when there is 2 legislative chamber that things are based off of.
Republic Is when there is a government made out of the citizens. They get to vote for the leaders and representatives, they also are allowed to govern.
Ordinance Is when there is a law set by the government authority. Or is also authoritative decreed or direction.
Depreciate Is when you lower the taxable income of a portion of the original cost of something like a business. This can take a few years to happen as it lowers.
Depression Is a time period that lasts a while and it lowers general economic activity, this is widespread. Widespread is when you are unemployed and you decline in trade which is often by deflation.
Manumission Is when a slave is released from slavery. They are no longer enslaved and can be free.
Proportional Is regulated or determined in size or degree with reference to proportions.
Compromise Is when people wont compromise with their principles. Like they make a shameful or disreputable concession about them. Or a concession to something derogatory or prejudicial to them.
Federalism Is when there is a distribution of power in an organization like the government. This could be between a central authority and the constituent. Or this could mean for controlling and defining criminal behavior
Legislative Branch Is one of 3 branches and they are divide into the house of representatives. But their main task is to draft and pass laws, declaring war, and controlling government spending.
Executive Branch It is one of the 3 branches. But their main task is to enforce and carry out laws
Electoral College Is a body of people representing the states of the US. The cast votes for the election of the president and vice president.
Judicial Branch It is one of the 3 branches. But their main job is to interpret laws and apply them to individual cases, making sure that justice is administered and disputes are resolved.
Check and Balances Is when people are influences by which an organization or system is regulated, typically those ensuring that political power is not concentrated in the hands of individuals or groups.
Amendment It means altering or amending a law or document by parliamentary or constitutional procedure.
