| Ordinance | a rule of conduct or action laid down by a governing authority and especially a legislature |
| Depreciate | a decrease of the value of currence |
| Depression | a major decrease of economic activity |
| Manumission | the act of setting free from slavery |
| Proportional | corresponding in size, amount, extent, or degree |
| Compromise | a settlement of differences where each side makes concessions to reach a mutually acceptable agreement |
| Federalism | the system of government in which power is divided and shared between a central, national authority and regional or state governments |
| Legislative Branch | the branch of government responsible for making laws, composed of the bicameral U.S. Congress (the House of Representatives and the Senate). |
