| Manumission | the owner of a slave legally gives them the right to be free |
| Compromise | to reach an agreement for preventing a conflict |
| Federalism | the distribution of power in an organization such as a government between a central authority and the constituent. |
| Legislative Branch | the branch of the federal government that creates laws, and is made up of Congress, which is divided into the Senate and the House of Representatives. |
