New England Colonies

Study what we have learned about the last week in class about the colonies

QuestionAnswer
Who were the original occupants of the colonies? The Native Americans
What is Plymouth? The first colony to be established in the New England Colonies.
What were the main reasons for settlement in all these colonies? Religious Freedom and economic opportunity.
What are the states that were in the New England Colony? Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut.
Who were the Pilgrims? They were the first settlers in Massachusetts.
What was Rhode Islands nickname? Little Rhody
Who was Roger Williams? He established Rhode Islands first settlement
Where was Thomas Hooker originally from? He moved from Massachusetts.
What does Expanded mean? To grow larger
What was the Mayflower Compact? a written agreement, or contract, that the Pilgrims and other passengers signed on the Mayflower ship before they landed in America in 1620
What is a harbor? Sheltered areas of water deep enough to provide ships a place to anchor
What is a democracy? a way of governing a country or community where the people hold the power
What does it mean for a place to be founded? It means it has been started or established
