Mayflower Compact Document written by the pilgrims that calls for a civil body politic - a government separate from the King of England.

theocracy A government that is led by religion - church and state are not separated.
Roger Williams Separatist creator of Rhode Island - exiled, came back, and set up Rhode Island as a place for religious tolerance. Wants to keep church and state separate.

Pequot War Conflict between the Pequot Indians and English, English sets Pequot building on fire, Pequot nearly wiped out
King Philip's war Conflict between Wampanoags/ followers of Metacoment and English, but this time they get to use guns
English Civil War (with monarchs) Charles I, son of James, dissolving parliament and causing many to dislike him, eventually killed Charles and put Oliver Crom well in place for some reason
Proprietary colony A colony led/owned by one of the proprietors - not directly connected to the King but rather the proprietor
Royal colony A colony that made its money for the king

Sugar cane Labor-intensive crop that required slave labor to harvest
Slave revolts Slave-led rebellions against their planter owners
Middle Passage Arduous oversea journey for slaves, most died because of terrible ship conditions

Navigation Acts Acts that were designed to regulate colonial commerece strictly. 1660 closed all colonies to trade except for English ships, 1663 omade all European goods pass through England for taxes, 1673 stopped scammers by initiating things that enforced these laws
