Articles of Confederation

What ended the American Revolution? 1783 the Treaty of Paris.
What was the first government? The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union.
What's Anarchy? No government.
What's Tyranny? Too much government.
What's a unicameral legislature? Each state had one vote regardless of population.
Due to the Articles of Confederation what could the US government not do? They couldn't tax the people.
What two branches did they not have? No Executive and no Judicial Branch.
Was the Articles of Confederation strong or weak? Weak.
What's Shays Rebellion? A revolt by farmers.
What could congress not do when they had money problems? Repay war debt, impose taxes, control trade or enforce laws.
What was the initial purpose of the constitutional convention? To revise the Articles of Confederation.
Which states delegates weren't sent to the Constitutional Convention? Rhode Island.
Did they meet in secret? Yes.
Who the chairman of the constitution? George Washington.
Due to Hamilton wanting a strong national government what did he propose? He proposed America should have a king.
Who was considered "Father of the Constitution" and did most of the writing? James Madison.
What happens in a true Democracy? Everyone votes on every issue.
What happens in a Republic? The people elect representatives to vote for them on the issues.
What was the Virginia Plan? Representation based on population.
What was the New Jersey Plan? Equal Representation from all states.
What was the solution? The Great Compromise.
What did the Legislative Branch have? A bicameral (2 houses).
What were the two houses for the Legislative? The Senate and The House of Representatives.
How many senators are from each state? Two per state no matter the size.
What's the House of Representatives? Representation based on population of individual states.
What was the 3/5 compromise? Every five salves would count as three people for taxation and representation.
What was the Federal System also known as? Division of powers.
Due to federalism what did the states have to share? Certain power.
What did federalism do to the power of the government? It limited their power.
What's Federalism? Dividing power between the federal government and the state governments.
What did federalism do to the three branches? It divided the power between them.
How many Amendments are there? Twenty-seven.
What are the first ten Amendments? The Bill of Rights.
What does the Bill of Rights do? It limits the powers of the federal government protecting the rights of all citizens.
What are the first Amendments freedoms? Religion, Freedom of Speech, Press, Assemble, and Petition the Government.
Who were the signers of the constitution from Georgia? Abraham Baldwin and William Few
Who's the Legislative Branch? Congress.
What does the Legislative do? Makes the Laws.
Who's apart of the Legislative? The senate and the House of Representatives.
Who's the Executive Branch? The President.
What does the Executive Branch do? Enforces the Laws.
Who's the Judicial Branch? The Supreme Court and The Federal Court System.
What does the Judicial Branch do? They interpret the Law.

How many states need to approve of changing the Amendments? Amendments need approval of three-fourths of the states to be ratified and become part of the Constitution.
Who was the first president? George Washington.
How many Branches does Georgia's government have? Three.
What are Georgia's three branches? The Governor, Legislative, and Supreme Court.
Who's Georgia's governor? Brain Kemp.
What's Georgia's Legislative? The General Assembly.
What's the Headright System? 1000 acres to each male "head of household"
What was Georgia's western border? The Mississippi River.
What did land companies do to get cheap land near the Yazoo River? They bribed Legislators.
What did the public do when they found out? They rioted.
What did Georgia ask the federal government for? They asked for help.
What did Georgia lose? All land west of the Chattahoochee River.
What did the feds promise to Georgia? To remove all the Indians from Georgia.
In 1803 what did President Jefferson purchase from Napoleon? The Louisiana Territory.
What did the Louisiana purchase do to the United States? It doubled the size of the US.
What was the war of 1812 known as in the south? The Creek War.
Why did Andrew Jackson become famous? For his victory over the Creek Indians at Horseshoe Bend.
Who's aid did Andrew Jackson win with? The Cherokee Indians.
What did the British do to Washington? They burned and sacked it.
What is Manifest Destiny? The belief that the United States was meant to control the continent from ocean to ocean.
When and where was gold first discovered in Georgia? Near Dahlonega in 1828.
Which Nation was the First American Gold Rush in? The Cherokee Nation.
What did thousands of people do when they found out about the gold rush? They came to Georgia to seek their fortune.
In 1830 what did Georgia do to the Cherokee Nation and force the Federal government to do? Georgia claimed the Cherokees land in north Georgia and forced the Federal government to remove them.
In 1800 what was it like on the frontier? People rugged for independence, went hunting, did hard drinking, and fought.
In 1800 what was it like in the city? They had newspapers, libraries, hospitals, plays at the theaters, community events, parties, and horse racing.
