Industrial Revolution: What is it? How/Why did it get started? The Industrial Revolution is when people made things with machines instead of hand. It started in Great Britain in mid 1700s when they built factories and moved to U.S. in 1880s.
Technology: Definition? Technology is equipment that makes use of advanced knowledge and skill to solve a problem or do a task.
Manufacturing: Definition? Manufacturing is the making of things in a factory.
Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin: Who is he/what did he do? Explain how it is an improvement? Eli Whitney made the cotton gin. It's an improvement because it makes picking cotton seeds easier.
Interchangeable parts: How did it change manufacturing? It changed manufacturing by creating identical parts for guns to replace, like muskets for example. Eli Whitney invented interchangeable parts.
Patent: Definition? Patent is the sole legal right to an invention and its profits.
Samuel Slater: Who is he/what did he do? Samuel Slater brought cotton machines from Britain to America.
Francis Cabot Lowell & the Factory System: Who is he/what did he do? Explain what it is and how it changed manufacturing. The Factory System is all steps of manufacturing and the making of textiles and cloth. Francis Cabot Lowell changed manufacturing by creating the Lowell Factory System.
Capitalism and capital: Define. Capitalism is the economic system in which people and companies own the means of production. Capital is the money or other items, such as machines or buildings, used to create wealth.
Free Enterprise System: Describe the process. The Free Enterprise System is the process of economic freedom, private property, competition, and profit.
Agriculture: How does the increase of farming in the South affect industry in the North? The number of enslaved workers increased in the United States of America.
Corporations: Describe the concept. A corporation is a legal organization created to run a business.
