| civilization | an advanced state of human society in which a high level of social structure, government, religion, technology, and writing systems has been reached |
| cultural diffusion | the spread of people, ideas, technology, and products from one culture to another |
| domesticate | to tame in order to keep or grow, as with a wild animal or a wild plant |
| habitat | the natural environment where certain plants grow and animals live |
| hunter-gatherer | a member of a nomadic group of people who live chiefly by hunting, fishing, and harvesting wild food |
| interdependent | people, societies, or other groups who rely on each other for survival or success |
| legacy | something handed down from generation to generation |
| nomadic | moving from place to place without a permanent home |
| prehistory | the time period before history was written |
| social structure | the organization and interrelationships of people in society |
| specialize | to become an expert in a particular subject, skill, or trade; to produce a limited variety of goods and services |
