TermDefinition
French and Indian war Very costly war between France and Great Britain over territory in the Ohio Valley; also known as the seven years war.
Proclamation of 1763 Order by king George III that did not allow colonists to move west of the Appalachian mountains; also set a southern boundary for Georgia.
Stamp act Tax paid directly by the colonist for every paper document, Georgia’s colonists were not as angry about the tax because they were still very dependent on Great Britain.
Declaration of Independence Formal document drafted by Thomas Jefferson; it listed the reasons why the American colonies should be independent from Great Britain and was issued on July 4,1776.
Preamble An introduction; for declaration of independence, this part explained the reasons the document was written and lists the natural rights of people.
Grievances Formal complaints; for Declaration of independence, this part described the various complaints off the colonists against King George III.
Button Gwinnett Signer of the declaration of independence; killed shortly after signing the document in a dual with Lachlan Mclntosh.
Lyman Hall Signer of the declaration of independence; he was a doctor and was elected governor of Georgia.
George Walton Signer of the declaration of independence; he was a lawyer and a judge and was elected governor of Georgia.
Loyalists Colonists who wanted to Georgia and the other colonies to remain part of Great Britain.
Patriots Colonists who wanted to become independent of Great Britain and have their own country .
Battle of Kettle Creek A victory for the Patriots;resulted in needed supplies and an increase in morale(Confidence and enthusiasm)
Siege of Savannah A loss for the patriots; resulted in the city of savannah being controlled by the british for the rest of the war.
Articles of Confederation America’s first written constitution; had many weaknesses, including no separation of powers, all states in agreement to pass a law, and not allowing the national government to regulate trade.
Constitutional Convention Meeting that took place in Philadelphia to revise the Articles of Confederation; delegates ended up writing a new document.
U.S. Constitution Written plan for the government of the united states .
