allies An alliance of nations joining together to fight a common enemy
armistice An agreement to stop fighting
Central Powers In World War I the alliance of Germany and Austria-Hungary and other nations allied with them in opposing the Allies.
communism a form of socialism that abolishes private ownership derived from Karl Marx
Depression A long-term economic state characterized by unemployment and low prices and low levels of trade and investment
fascist a member of a political party who supports extreme nationalism and a dictator
Vladimir Lenin Russian founder of the Bolsheviks and leader of the Russian Revolution and first head of the USSR
Nazism Adolf Hitler used fascism to create this type of government based on totalitarian ideas and was used to unite Germany during the 1930s.
Soviet Union a former communist country in eastern Europe and northern Asia
Treaty of Versailles Treaty that ended WW I. It blamed Germany for WW I and handed down harsh punishment.
