Assembly Line A method of making products where each worker does a specific job as the item moves down the line.
Capitalism An economic system where people own businesses and make profits from their work and investments.
Communism A political and economic system where the government owns all property and businesses, and everyone shares the wealth equally.
Economic Relating to how money and resources are used and managed in a society.
Factory A place where workers make goods using machines and tools.
Imperialism A policy where a country extends its power and influence over other countries, often by taking control of their land.
Strike A refusal by workers to work—done to demand better conditions from their bosses.
Industry The production of goods and services in an economy.
Labor Union An organization of workers that fights for better working conditions.
Laissez Faire An economic principle that says the government should not interfere with businesses and let them operate freely.
Means of Production The tools, machines, and resources needed to produce goods and services.
Textiles Materials made by weaving or knitting fibers together; often used to make clothing.
Colony A territory controlled and governed by a foreign country.
Rural Relating to areas outside of cities, with open land and fewer people.
Urban Relating to cities or towns, areas with many people and buildings.
Sphere of Influence A region where a powerful country has influence over political and economic activities.
Markets Economic systems where buyers and sellers interact to exchange goods and services.
Mass Production Producing large quantities of goods quickly and cheaply.
Monopoly When one company has complete control over an industry or market.
