Soviet Coup Attempt (1991) A failed attempt by hardliners of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) to forcibly seize control of the country from Mikhail Gorbachev.
Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (1979) The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan began on December 24, 1979, when the Soviet Union sent troops into its Central Asian neighbor to support a struggling socialist government.
Space Race The Space Race was a 20th-century competition between the Cold War rivals, the United States and the Soviet Union, to achieve superior spaceflight capability. It had its origins in the ballistic missile-based nuclear arms race between the two nations.
