Malta Summit (1989) During the summit, Bush and Gorbachev declared an end to the Cold War, although whether it was truly such is a matter of debate. News reports of the time referred to the Malta Summit as one of the most important since World War II.
Marshall Plan The Marshall Plan was a US initiative following World War II, formalized by Secretary of State George C. Marshall in 1947, to provide economic aid for European recovery.
Mathias Rust flight (1987) On May 28, 1987, West German teenager Mathias Rust made a daring flight through Soviet air defenses, landing a rented Cessna 172 near Moscow's Red Square to promote peace between East and West.
