Act like a Historian

timeline lists events in chronological order
research careful collection of information
fact checked by using reliable sources to determine the truth
opinion based on beliefs
primary source first-hand accounts of an event created by someone who was there or from the time of an event (diaries, journals, interviews, photographs, artifacts, autobiographies)
secondary source accounts of an event created at a later date and by someone who was not present at the event (textbooks, biographies, newspaper articles)
compare a similarity between 2 or more things
contrast a difference between 2 or more things
index alphabetical listing of key words that include page numbers, usually at the back of a book
diagram a labeled drawing that explains how something works or its parts
table of contents located in the front and lists the chapters and page numbers
glossary gives the definitions of certain words in alphabetical order at the back of a book
caption a short description of a picture
map a flat representation of the Earth's surface to show the location of items
cite to reference a source (for a book: title, author, publisher and date; for a website: URL, website name, webpage title)
plagiarize to steal and use another's words as your own
