Enduring Issues

TermDefinition
Conflict Serious disagreement or argument between individuals, groups or nations (such as war or differences of opinions/ideas)
Power Ability to influence or control behavior (such as political power or powerful ideas/beliefs)
Cooperation Working together to achieve a common goal or solve a mutual problem (such as an alliance)
Inequality When one person or group has more power or resources than others (such as discrimination)
Innovation A new idea, invention or method (such as technology)
Movement Migration of ideas or goods (such as through trade or communication)
Human-Environment Interaction How humans have changed or interacted with their environment, or how the environment effects humans (such as by building a canal or when seasons change)
Change When something is altered or becomes different (such as a revolution or population shift)
Scarcity If resources are scarce (rare), then trade, cooperation &/or conflicts occur
Migration The long-lasting and ongoing movement of people from one place to another, often driven by factors like safety, opportunity, or environmental changes
Security The safety/protection of people, communities, and nations
Discrimination The unfair treatment of individuals or groups based on characteristics such as race, gender, or religion leading to unequal opportunities and social exclusion
Nationalism A sense of pride and devotion to your nation
Impact of Trade This refers to the lasting effects (both positive and negative) that the exchange of goods, services, and ideas between different regions or countries has on economics, cultures, and societies over time
Impact of Disease This refers to the ongoing ways that illnesses affect societies over time (such as in relation to population, economies, health, culture, etc.)
Human Rights Violations The ongoing and widespread problem where individuals or groups are denied their basic freedoms and protections guaranteed by international laws, leading to injustice, discrimination, and suffering
Insecurity This refers to instability or the lack of protection
