APHG U2 key vocabulary terms

| Agricultural Density | The total number of FARMERS per unit of ARABLE land |
| Anti-Natalist Population Policies | Measures implemented by the government to reduce birth rates and discourage population growth |
| Arithmetic Density | The total number of PEOPLE per UNIT of land |
| Asylum Seekers | People who go to another country seeking protection and safety due to fear of persecution in their home country |
| Carrying Capacity | The maximum population size an environment can sustain |
| Dependency Ratio | The number of people in a dependent age group divided by the number of people in the working age group multiplied by 100 (dependent is <15 or >65, working is 15-64) |
| Doubling Time | The number of years in which a population will double |
| Emigration | People EXITING their home country to settle in another country |
| Fertility Rate | The average number of kids a woman will have in her lifetime |
| Guest Worker | A foreign worker who temporarily works in another country |
| Immigration | People moving INTO a foreign country to settle there |
| Internally Displaced Person | One who has been forced to leave their country due to dangerous conditions- BUT who STAYS IN THEIR HOME COUNTRY'S BORDERS |
| Migration | People moving permanently from one place to another |
| Migration Rate | The number of immigrants moving into a country subtracted by the number of emigrants leaving that county- per 1,000 people in a year |
| Mortality Rate (Crude Death Rate) | The number of deaths in a population per 1,000 people in a year |
| Physiological Population Density | The total number of PEOPLE per unit of ARABLE land |
| Population Density | The number of people occupying a unit of land |
| Pro-Natalist Population Policies | Measures implemented by the government to encourage population growth and higher birth rates |
| Rate of Natural Increase | The difference between the Crude Birth Rate and the Crude Death Rate of a population as a percentage |
| Refugee | A person fleeing danger who LEAVES THEIR HOME COUNTRY to go to another country seeking safety |
| Sex Ratio | The proportion of males to females in a population |
| Crude Birth Rate | The number of live births occurring in one year per 1,000 people |
| Population Growth Rate | A more accurate measure of growth calculated by the following equation: Births-Deaths+Immigrants-Emigrants |
