| What is a conference committee? | The conference committee meets when the Senate and House do not agree on a bill. Identical versions of the bill must be agreed on before going to the governor. |
| What are the steps for a bill to become law? | Idea presented, name/number by Clerk of House/Secretary of State; goes to Senate or House to be read/studied by committee debated/voted on; goes to other house/Senate for read/debate/vote; if identical on both sides, bill goes to governor for signing. |

| What is civil law? | deals with disputes between private individuals/groups rather than crimes against society |
| What types of disputes are considered civil law? | They often involve compensation for injury, damage or wrongdoing (damages in a car accident) |
| What is criminal law? | These laws are created to protect society from wrongdoers |
| What are types of criminal law | if someone breaks this type of law, the government prosecutes them and punishments include fines, jail or other penalties (ex. robbery - it harms both victim and society's sense of safety) |
| Can a person be charged with breaking both a civil and criminal law? | Yes. Ex. drunk driver causes a car wreck; criminal - driving drunk, civil - car repares, medical bills, suffering of the injured person (compensation for payment) |
| What is a misdemeanor? | shoplifting, traffic violation, trespassing. Other types are assault/battery, cruelty to animals. |
