Who was the first Spaniard to explore south Carolina and who sent him? Fransisco Gordillo, sent by Lucas Vasquez de Ayllon.
Who was the first French explorer in South Carolina? Giovanni da Verranzo
What was Gordillo's failed settlement called, and why didn't it work? San Miguel de Gualdape, repeated attacks of nearby Indians, having a shortage of food, and having no leader.
Who was Hernando de Soto? One of the more famous South Carolina explorers from Peru.
