Chilean coup (1973) On 11 September 1973, a group of military officers, led by General Augusto Pinochet, seized power in a coup, ending civilian rule.

Cominform Cominform was a coordinating body for the European Marxist-Leninist communist parties, active from 1947 to 1956, founded by the Soviet Union to exert control over Western communist parties and align them with Moscow's policies.
Communism/democratic socialism/social democracy containment policy During the Cold War, the U.S. containment policy was specifically designed to stop the spread of Soviet communism and did not target democratic socialism or social democracy.

Communism/democratic socialism/social democracy Communism envisions a stateless, classless society with no private property or government, while Democratic Socialism seeks to replace capitalism. Social Democracy accepts a capitalist economy and a market system but believes in a strong welfare state.
