| colonize | to claim land for a nation by establishing a settlement |
| economic factor | something influential related to the availability of resources, employment opportunities, or trade patterns |
| economy | the money and resources in a region and how they are used by producers and consumers |
| immunity | the ability to resist infection or not be harmed by a particular disease |
| imperialism | a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through colonization, military force, or other means |
| isolated | separated from others; without interaction |
| mercantilism | an economic policy in which the goal is to gain wealth by exporting more goods than are imported |
| mission | a building or group of buildings used by a religious organization to spread its faith |
| Northwest Passage | a northern ocean trade route around North America connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans |
