Terms to know about the 5 Themes of Geography

TermDefinition
Movement What is moving and why? (people, ideas, & goods)
Migration the moving from one country to another to permanently settle
Location where is it?
Absolute Location the exact location of a place on the earth's surface
Relative Location the position of a place in relation to other places.
Place features and characteristics that give an area its own identity or personality
Physical Characteristics features made by nature (landforms, climate, plants, & animals)
Human Characteristics features made by humans (language, religion, music, architecture, etc)
Human-Environment Interaction The relationship linking people to their environment (how the environment impacts people and how humans impact the environment)
Region Areas that share common characteristics
Adapt people do this to feel more comfortable in their environment
Modify people make changes to their environment so that it works better for them
Depend people need something in their environment to survive
Push Factor a factor that causes people to leave their homelands and migrate to another region
Pull Factor a factor that draws or attracts people to another location
