2.5 Colonial Religion

| Half-way Covenant | Measure allowing New England church members who had not declared their personal faith in Christ to present their children for baptism |
| Quakers | Members of the Society of Friends who taught that people possessed and "inner light" and who opposed participating in wars, taking oaths, or holding public office. |
| Baptists | Religious group that practices baptism by immersion for professing believers, practices congregational polity, and believes only the regenerate should be church members |
| Anabaptists | Groups such as Amish or Mennonites who refused to serve in the military, vote, or hold offices, and who stressed the importance of a holy, simple life |
| Moravians | Reformed group from southern Germany that emphasized the importance of conversion, personal piety, the necessity of living a holy life, and missions. |
| Great Awakening | Large religious revival in the American colonies from the 1720s to the 1740s |
| Jonathan Edwards | Led the most influential revival of the Great Awakening |
| George Whitefield | The Great Awakening continued under his preaching. He came to America in 1738 and preached for over 30 years and had 7 preaching tours of the colonies |
| Samuel Davies | Leader of the Great Awakening in the south |
