| indentured servants | A laborer who contracted to work for a specified period, usually between 4-7 years, for the person who paid for their passage to America |
| Great Wagon Road | An old Iroquois trail that became the chief access to frontier settlements from Virginia to Georgia |
| Old Deluder Satan Act | Law in Massachusetts that every village of 50 or mor families hire a school master, and every town of 100 or more families establish a grammar school. |
| Harvard College | The 1st college established in the American Colonies, founded in 1636 in Cambridge Massachusetts, to train ministers. |
| freeholders | Adult white males who owned property and who had the right to vote for members of colonial legislatures. |
| Pequot War | Conflict from 1636 to 1638 between Massachusetts Bay colonists and the Pequot tribe |
| King Phillip's War | Conflict form 1675 to 1678 between Wampanoag chief Metacomet King Philip) and New England colonies. |
| Bacon's Rebellion | Conflict in Virginia between frontier farmers and Native Americans that led to violence between Nathaniel Bacon and his followers and the government of Virginia |
| John Eliot | Learned the language of the Native Americans in Massachusetts and preached to them. Also translated various devotionals. 4000 natives converted under his preaching |
| David Brainerd | He preached to the Native Americans in NY, NJ, and PA. His ministry was short (due to his death at 29), but his journal was published after his death and inspired many young men to enter the ministry |
| Samson Occom | Member of the Mohegan nation in Connecticut who converted to Christianity as a result of the Great Awakening. He was the 1st student in a school established for Native Americans |
