What did the great compromise do? Created two houses of congress
What are the three branches of Government? Legislative, Judicial, Executive
What is the Bill of Rights? The first ten amendments to the constitution are considered the Bill of Rights
What precedent did George Washington set? Staying neutral to foreign affairs and only being president for 2 terms.
What did the Lousiana Purchase do? Doubled the size of the United States
What is impressment? / What cruel method did British soldiers use in wars with America? British forcing American soldiers into their navy
What was the Indian Removal Act? Law forcing Native Americans to move west of the Mississippi
What was the Trail of Tears? The deadly journey Native Americans made to Indian territory.
What was the Monroe Doctrine? Warned Europe not to interfere in the Americas.
What invention increased slavery in the South? The cotton gin
What was Manifest Destiny? A belief that the US was destined to expand coast-to-coast
What did the Erie Canal connect? Buffalo to Albany or Lake Erie to the Hudson
What was the underground railroad? A secret network to help enslaved people escape
What did the fugitive slave act do? Required escaped slaves to be returned to their masters
What was Bleeding Kansas? Fights between pro and anti slavery believers
