American Revolution

TermDefinition
Boston Massacre An event in 1770 where British soldiers fired into a crowd of colonists in Boston, killing five people. It increased tensions between the colonists and Britain.
Paul Revere A Patriot famous for his midnight ride to warn colonists that British soldiers were coming before the battles of Lexington and Concord.
Loyalist A colonist who remained loyal to Great Britain during the American Revolution and opposed independence.
Patriot A colonist who supported American independence and wanted to break away from British rule.
Propaganda Information, often exaggerated or biased, used to promote a particular point of view or cause — used by both Patriots and Loyalists during the Revolution.
Colonist A person who lived in one of the 13 American colonies under British rule before the United States became independent.
Coercive Acts Also known as the "Intolerable Acts," these were harsh laws passed by Britain in 1774 to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party and limit their self-government.
