What were two ways women could become involved in active duty? Disguised as men and become soldier, and spies.
What event occured that led to the Battle of Antietam? Lee's officers lost a copy of the battle plans, and the Union troops received the plans.
How did the Emancipation Proclamation help African Americans? It declared all enslaved people in the Confederacy would be considered free. The South considered people to be property and this allowed the Union to set them free.
What was the 54th Regiment? Allowed African Americans to join the army
What caused the Battle of Gettysburg to start? Needing shoes Confederates walked into the village and encountered Union troops.
What was Lincoln’s purpose for going to the battle site of Gettysburg? To dedicate a cementary there.
What was the date of Lincoln’s assassination? April 14, 1865
Name of the man who assassinated Lincoln? John Wilkes Booth
During reconstruction what did that mean for South districts? It became divided into 5 separate districts which would remain under military control.
What was the purpose of the 13th Amendment? African Americans were free and recognized as citizens
What was the purpose of the 14th Amendment? They could own land and get paid to work.
What was the purpose of the 15th Amendment? African American men received the right to vote.
Who did sharecropping benefit? Plantation owners
Because Union troops were forced to leave the South what happened to the rights of African Americans? Segregation
