| settlement | a place where people move to and start living, especially in a new area where not many people have lived before. Also known as a colony |
| colonization | when one country takes control of another country or region, setting up a permanent settlement (a colony) to gain power and resources |
| Jamestown | the first permanent English colony in North America |
| raw materials | A material that has not been changed in any way |
| stockholders | someone who has shares in a company; they own a piece of that company. |
| British North America | the British-ruled land in North America, mainly the areas that now form Canada and parts of the United States |
