TermDefinition
History Study of the past
Prehistory A period before writing and records existed
Primary sources Sources that are first hand experience. E.g artefacts newspaper
Secondary sources Sources that came from people who didn’t experience it. E.g textbooks
Written sources Sources that were written. E.g newspaper, scriptures, books
Visual sources Sources that you see. E.g paintings, pictures
Aural sources Sources that you hear. E.g recordings, sounds of the past
Oral sources Sources that were spoken. E.g interviews
Tactile sources Sources that you can feel. E.g artefacts, monuments
Bias When a source favours a side
Archeology Study of remains from the past
Chronological order When something is ordered by the time it happened, usually going from the earliest to the latest
Repositories Places where sources are stored. E.g museum, websites
Dendrochronology A method of dating something made out of wood. Tress grow a ring every year when it’s still alive
Stratigraphy Studying the layers of rock and soil to find the approximate age of anything buried under the soil
Radiocarbon dating A method of dating based on the levels of carbon 14 decreasing overtime. Carbon 14 decreases when something dies
