Who was Philip II? King of Spain, great wealth from New World colonies, uses Catholic Inquisition to maintain power, claims Divine Right.
Who was Louis XIV? Bourbon King of France, called the "Sun King", builds the Palace of Versailles.
Who was Peter the Great? Westernized Russia, Czar of Russia, wanted Russia to be more like Europe.
Who was Henry VIII? Tuder King of England, breaks with Catholic church to get divorced, has 6 marriages, his daughter Elizabeth develops the Anglican Church.
Describe John Locke. Believed nature gives power and government shouldn't have too much power.
Describe James I. Believed monarchy is the best form of government and that kings sit on God's throne,
What was the Enlightenment? When humans began to apply reason and logic into their beliefs and lives. It was a response to absolute monarchies and it fueled democratic revolutions and religious tolerance.
Which future president began his military career in the French & Indian war? George Washington.
How was the French & Indian War a direct cause of the American Revolution? Britain was in debt and they taxed highly which led to protests.
