How did political aspects cause the fall of the Roman Empire? Earthquakes destroyed buildings, rich citizens have more rights and benefits than the poor, and the government wasn't fair.
How did social aspects cause the fall of the Roman Empire? Rich people were entitled to avoid the draft and the poor ran away, earthquakes killed a lot of Romans, and measles and plagues swept over the Roman Empire.
How did economical aspects cause the fall of the Roman Empire? Taxes were unjust and the people had to pay for German troops.
How did military aspects cause the fall of the Roman Empire? Less conscription, soldiers didn't wear armor, and parade ground drills were abandoned.
Who was Charlemagne? The most powerful man in Europe since the fall of the Roman Empire, Charlemagne liked the Catholic Church, ruled for 14 years and in the time he built schools and learned how to read and write.
What did Charlemagne divide his empire into? 350 counties.
Define Feudalism. Is a system in which people were given land and protection by the rich and in return the people being protected worked and fought for them.
Define Manorialism. Is a system where peasants worked on a lord's land for a prophet.
Define Fiefdom. Is a piece of land a lord gave to a peasant but the lord ruled it.
What's the difference between a serf and a peasant? Peasants were free to move from manor to manor to look for work. Serfs, on the other hand, were like slaves except that they couldn't be bought or sold.
How did feudalism provide for the security of the people of medieval Europe? If peasants worked for nobles the knights would protect them.
What is the role of the Catholic Church during the Middle Ages? It unified Europe.
What was the Middle Ages? The fall of the Roman Empire started the Middle Ages which caused the rise of feudalism and the church's influence on people. Wars started between Christian and Islamic groups over territory and religious sites. The Black Death also broke out.
What were some of the theories the people had about how the Bubonic Plague (Black Death) was spreading so quickly? God was punishing them, fleas on rats, and bad air.
What caused the Manorial System to decline? The Crusades-Christians tried to take Holy lands from Muslims.
How did the emergence of trade and cities lead to economic changes in Europe? Manorialism was no longer needed.
List 3 things that describe Manorialism. 1)Based on agriculture 2) Economic aspect of feudalism 3) Nobles in charge
List 3 things that describe Commercial Revolution. 1) Money Economy 2) Land no longer showed how rich you were 3) Merchants ran towns (economically)
What was the cause of the Black Death? Fleas on rats.
What was the reason Manorialism and Feudalism declines? Trade.
