What is voting like in Brazil? citizens over the age of 16 may vote, but citizens between 18-70 are required to vote in national elections
What type of legislature does Brazil have? The National Congress is bicameral, consisting of 1) the Senate and 2) the Chamber of Deputies
What type of government does Mexico have? Mexico has a federal system (meaning the national government shares power with the state government) and a Presidential Democracy

What is voting like in Cuba? Citizens over 16 may vote, but they have few choices
What is the level of citizen participation in Cuba? Citizens have few freedoms. Even though citizens get to “vote”, they do not get to select the candidates or make the laws
What type of legislature does Cuba have? The National Assembly of People’s Power is unicameral (no houses)
Who control the Communist Party in Cuba? Fidel Castrol and his brother Raul since 1959
Define: Fidel Castro Cuban statesman, prime minister and president. After overthrowing President Batista, he set up a communist regime
Describe the relationship between the United States and Cuba. The United States and Cuba have had a strained relationship since Fidel Castro overthrew a U.S.-backed government
How did Fidel Castro come to power? He used military force to overthrow the government in 1959. He became the leader with unlimited power
What rights did Fidel Castro take away from the Cuban people? Everything belonged to the government and no one can do anything about it
What countries in Latin America have environmental issues? Mexico and Brazil
What is the environmental issue in Mexico? Air pollution
What is the environmental issue in Brazil? Deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest

Define: Columbian Exchange the widespread transfer of plants, animals, diseases, and people between the Old World (Europe, Africa, and Asia) and the New World (the Americas) following Christopher Columbus's voyages in the late 15th century
