Causalities Soldiers unable to fight due to death, injury, capture or other reasons

Ironclads Wooden ships covered in metal armor
Popular Sovereignty The idea that citizens of a state or territory should choose whether to practice slavery
Pardon To officially excuse a crime without punishment
Secede To leave or quit
Sharecropping The practice of a landowners paying farmers by letting them keep some of the crops that they grow
Siege A strategy of forcing a fortified place to surrender by surrounding it and waiting for the people to run out of food and supplies
