What did the Articles of Confederation allow the states to do what? Run their own government and retained the right to print their own money
What did the Northwest Ordinance declare? Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude was allowed
Why was the Articles of Confederation weak? Lacked a backing of a strong national government
Because the government did not collect taxes what did they ask for? Money from the states
What did the British do in a form of retaliation for winning the American Revolutionary war? Printed fake money and disbursed into our economy
What did the merchants require as payment because currency was too unstable? Gold and silver coins
Who was struggling with the merchants requirements for payment and what happened because of that? Farmers and they were jailed because they were unable to provide the required currency
How did farmers protest the current issues with their land and currency struggles? They blocked entrances to several courthouses
Who was in favor of citizens protesting? Thomas Jefferson
Who was opposed of citizens protesting? Samuel Adams
Where was the Constitutional Convention held? Pennsylvania State House
Which state did not attend the Constitutional Convention? Rhode Island
How many men took part in the convention? 55
What was the original purpose of the convention? Fix the Articles of Confederation
What ended up happening at the convention? Writing the new Constitution
Who was elected to run the convention? George Washington
Who did most of the work during the convention? James Madison
What was the names of the plan that was combined that essentially made the Constitution? Virginia & New Jersey
What was the name of the place that was adopted during the convention? The Great Compromise
The convention lasted for how long? About 1 month
How many months did it take to fully make the Constitution? 4 months
What was the 3/5ths compromise? Every 5 slaves was counted for 3 legal votes
What does the preamble reflect? The primary belief of the founders of the country
Legislative Branch is responsible for what? Override vetos, Pass laws, approves spending and taxes, and approves treaties
Judicial Branch is responsible for what? Supreme Courts, interpret laws, and can rule wether laws are Constitutional or not
Executive Branch is responsible for what? Enforces laws, commander in chief, nominates judges, and signs or vetos laws
What are the three branches of government? Judicial, Executive, and Legislative
