| The War of 1812 | The last war the Americans fought against the British. |
| Samuel Slater | "Father of the Industrial Revolution", Father of the American Factory system |
| Lewis and Clark | Two American explorers who led an expedition by canoe along the Missouri River to the western portion of the United States. |
| cotton gin | A machine that separates cotton from its seeds easily. |
| Eli Whitney | Inventor of the cotton gin. Came up with the concept of "Interchangeable Parts" |
| Robert Fulton | Was the inventor of the steamboat |
| Samuel F. B. Morse | Inventor of the telegraph and morse code |
| Interchangeable Parts | Common machine parts that are similar can be exchanged or interchanged with others. Ex: same sized nuts and bolts |
| Mass Production | A way to make the same product quickly and efficiently with machines |
| Andrew Jackson | 6th President of the United States. Jackson was a "man of the people". Took the U.S. to war with England in 1812. |
| Indian Removal Act | A law that gave the U.S. Government the power to force Native Americans from their homes in the East and move to the West. |
| The Erie Canal | Joins the Great Lakes with the Atlantic Ocean. Runs across all of New York State. |
| Manifest Destiny | The idea that the United States had the right to own and settle lands from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans. |
| Turnpikes | A place on a road where travelers had to stop to pay a toll. |
| The Monroe Doctrine | The idea that Europe should not set up new colonies in the Americas and that the United States would stay out of European problems. |
| The Mexican American War | War between the United States and Mexico. Where America expanded the United States with the inclusion of California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. |
| Trail of Tears | The trip in which the Cherokee people were forced to go west. |
| Compromise of 1850 | California came into the Union as a free state. This also established the Fugitive Slave Act which allowed slave owners to get their slaves back if they ran away. |
