What is Amazon Cloud Drive used for? Amazon Cloud Drive offers cloud storage for photos, documents, videos, and other digital files.
What is Ubuntu One? Ubuntu One is a premium model offering 56B of free storage and music streaming.
What is Microsoft SkyDrive? Microsoft SkyDrive allows saving, sharing, and accessing files through a browser.
What is Dropbox used for? Dropbox is a premium file synchronization and sharing service with over 4 million users.
What does iCloud offer? iCloud offers 5GB of free storage and backups for music, apps, photos, and more.
What is local storage? Local storage refers to storage devices located on-premise, like hard drives, flash drives, file servers, or NAS devices.
Give examples of local storage. Examples include hard drives, flash drives, local file servers, and NAS drives.
Where can cloud storage be accessed? Cloud storage can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection.
Where can local storage be accessed? Local storage can only be accessed on the computer or device it’s stored on.
What is the capacity difference between cloud and local storage? Both can offer high capacity—cloud is paid monthly or yearly; local requires upfront payment.
How is cloud storage protected? Cloud storage requires a username and password, and the provider encrypts the data.
How is local storage protected? Local storage is protected by the computer’s username and password; if stolen and not encrypted, data can be retrieved.
How is cloud storage paid for? Cloud storage is paid for with a monthly or yearly subscription.
How is local storage paid for? Local storage requires a one-time upfront cost for the hardware.
