What is a computer? A computer is a electronic device used to receive data, process data, store information and send information
What is a computer system? A complete installation including hardware, software, users, procedures, and data.
What are 7 parts of a computer system ? Screen, monitor, system unit, speaker, keyboard, mouse, microphone.
What are the 5 main types of computer systems? Supercomputers, mainframes, desktop systems, mobile devices, embedded devices.
What is a supercomputer? Super Computers are computers bdesigned to carry out extremely complex computing tasks
What is a supercomputer used for? Complex tasks like climate research, physical simulations, oil exploration, and weather forecasting.
How is the speed of a supercomputer measured? FLOPS (Floating Point Operations Per Second).
What is a mainframe computer? A powerful computer used for large-scale processing with high storage and speed.
What are two main uses of mainframes? Logistics and international transactions.
What is a desktop system? A small, powerful computer for common tasks, suitable for homes and businesses.
What are mobile devices? Portable computing devices small enough to use in your hand.
What are the 4 categories of mobile devices? Laptops/notebooks, ultra-portables (Chromebooks), tablets/eReaders (iPad/Kindle), smartphones/phablets.
What is an embedded device? A small computer designed for one specific task in a larger system.
What are 5 uses of embedded device? Spinning washing machines, controlling cameras, helping cars run, ticking clocks, heating food in microwaves.
What is the range of portability for these computer systems? Mobile Devices Embedded Devices Desktop Mainframe Supercomputer
