Self-Identity

Self-Concept How someone thinks about or perceives and evaluates themselves
Self-Esteem Respect or regard for oneself, how much value we place on ourselves
Ideal-Self Who we aspire to be, who we want to be
Existential Self Most basic self-concept, sense of being separate and distinct from others
Categorical Self Becoming aware that even though we exist distinct from others, we also exist in the world with others (gender, age, skills)
Humanistic Theory Carl Rogers believed self-concept had 3 different components; image, esteem/worth, and ideal
Incongruity When ideal self does not match the real self
