| Andes Mountains | A large system of mountain ranges located along the Pacific coast of Central and South America |
| Amazon River | A long river in northern South America. |
| Narcotics | Any contolled, non-medicinal substance (especially drugs) |
| smog | air pollution by a mixture of smoke and fog |
| deforestation | The removal of trees faster than forests can replace themselves. |
| Tropic of Capricorn | a line of latitude about 23 degrees South of the equator |
| commodities | a raw material or primary agricultural product that can be bought and sold, such as copper or coffee. |
