What is a tribute? Money paid by one country to another in return for protection.
What is an embargo? A government order that forbids foreign trade.
What is "Lassiez Faire" ? It means the government should not interfere with the economy.
What is nationalism? Pride in one's country.
What is a blockade? An action of shutting a port or road to prevent people or supplies from coming in and area or leaving it.
What does "impressment" mean? The act of seizing for public use or impressing into public service.
What is an anthem? A rousing or uplifting song identified with a particular group, body, or cause.
What is "Judicial Review" ? The authority of the supreme court to strike down unconstitutional laws.
What are "old ironsides" ? A strong type of ship hull.
What are "was hawks" ? People who are eager for war with Britain.
Who was Sacagawea? A woman who worked with the Native Americans as a translater. She also worked with Lewis & Clark or exploration trips.
Who was William Madbury? A highly successful businessmen & a "midnight judge."
Who was John Marshall? The chief justice - He also believed that the court's power came from the Constitution.
Who was Oliver Hazard Perry? A US Navy officer.
Who was Aaron Burr? Jefferson's running mate - he received 73 votes.
Who was Andrew Jackson? He took command of American forces in Georgia.
Who was Francis Scott Key? He was an American, lawyer, author, and poet who wrote the star-spangled banner.
Who is Stephen Decatur? He raided the Tripoli Harbor and burned the Philadelphia down to the waterline.
