What does it mean to be someone who moves from place to place in search of food? nomadic
What inventions have archeologists found from the Aborigines? rock art, boomerangs, ground axes. And gemstones
How did the Aborigines pass down their history? by telling stories
Explain the social structure of the Aboriginal people? Structures is based on a kinship system (they have strong ties to their land and a deep understanding of their ancestral lineage). People are organized into family groups and clans. There is no centralized leadership (no chiefs or leaders). Groups of families would travel together depending on their seasonal needs
Where did the original Aborigines settle and why? They settled in the same place as present-day Australians because of the available land and resources
How many Aborigines lived in Australia before 1788? 500,000 Aborigines
What is the Aboriginal people’s religion called? Describe it. Dreamtime which means beginning of life on earth. This belief system is centered on the idea that the land and all living things were created by ancestral spirits during a primordial time. There is a deep connection between the people and their land.
What does their artwork often depict? Dreamtime stories
What are the best-known forms of Aboriginal art? rock and bark painting
What is a more modern type of Aboriginal art? Dot art / painting
What is the most famous Aboriginal instrument? didgeridoo
What instrument do the men usually play? men play the didgeridoo
What instrument do the women usually play? woman played the clapstick
What happened to the Aborigines when the British settled Australia? They got sick
