Louisiana Purchase This event was when Jefferson bought land from France. It doubled the size of the United States. • In the Lewis and Clark expedition, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark explored the Louisiana Purchase from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean.
Florida Spain gave Florida to the United States through a treaty called the Adams-Onis Treaty
Texas Texas was added to the United States after it became an independent republic.
California War with Mexico resulted in California and the southwest territory becoming part of the United States.
Manifest Destiny The belief in the 1800s that expanding and settling the western part of the United States was a part of the destiny of the American people.
Lewis and Clark Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led a group called the Corps of Discovery to explore and map new land in the Louisiana Territory from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Coast.
Sacagawea A Shoshone woman who joined Lewis and Clark as an interpreter and guide.
Oregon Territory Northern part of Oregon Territory (today Canada) was owned by Great Britain. Southern part (including the 2000 mile long Oregon Trail)belonged to the U.S
Oregon Trail A route traveled by many settlers from Missouri heading west to Oregon
